If you have
older windows in your home then you'll understand the urge to brighten the room
with a new coat of paint. When it comes to windows though, painting can be a
bit difficult and intimidating to say the least. There are simple ways to get
the job done, so you can enjoy your room's new makeover.
The best
thing about painting windows is if you accidentally get paint on the glass it
is easy to remove. However, if you're still concerned about your glass then you
always add a layer of painter's tape or masking tap around the glass, which
will provide you with a nice boundary line to work with. Just to be safe you
might want to tape around the window frame to help you keep paint off the wall
itself.
Most
windows have removable hardware, so if you don't want your metallic locks to
get paint on them make sure the unscrew them and place them in a bag for secure
keeping. You will also want to find the perfect brush for the job. Small
brushes work best as window painting isn't a job you will want to rush. You
might also consider putting your paint in a styrofoam cup to make getting to
your paint a lot easier.
When
working with windows its best to start from the top and work your way down. Use
very little paint on the brush, especially when you're painting areas in the
crevice. This will allow you to get a nice clean coat on the molding as well as
avoid any air pockets or paint drops. As your work down carefully get the airs
near the glass. Once you have the majority of the window painted lift it up
carefully and paint the baseboard the window rest on.
Make sure
to let the window dry for a little while before getting ready for clean up. You
might need an extra coat of paint if the color is dull, so keep a close eye on
the detailing. Once everything is dry remove the tape, install the hardware
again and scrape off any paint that may have gotten on the glass with a razor.
Your home
will look great with your newly painted windows and it will certainly add value
to your accomplishments. Windows can be a tough task to accomplish, but with a
little dedication you will have a great finish to your home.
